Canada Day Celebration Guide

The Canada Day event is back after a pandemic-induced disruption, with several parties planned in the Vancouver area.

Here's a rundown of some of the festivities taking place on July 1 (Friday this year), including fireworks.

Surrey

The City of Surrey's schedule this year includes events recognizing the area's Aboriginal history, as well as performances by local artists.

Near the Bill Reid Millennium Amphitheatre will be more than 30 food trucks, 16 rides, 18 vendors and 30 live music performances, including Canadian rock band Arkells. There are also fireworks from 10:15pm.

Burnaby

This year, Burnaby is hosting what's called a "StreetFest," which includes food trucks, family-friendly events and live performances.

Three-time Juno winner k-os was the top performer at the party, along with performances from Bif Naked and Alex Cuba. Fireworks start at 10pm.。

Coquitlam

After a day of multicultural programming at the downtown park, the city of Coquitlam also had hopes of setting off fireworks.

The schedule also includes family-friendly activities such as face painting, scavenger hunts and "exciting, quick and fun activity games".
